The City of Longobardi extends between the sea and the mountains in an expanse of Mediterranean greenery. The picturesque old town is situated approximately 300 meters above sea level and is dominated by 1541 meters of Mount Cocuzzo, one of the most prominant mountains of the Coastal chain of Calabria, known for its tall pine forest.Among the many marine villages that also deserve mention are, Taureana, with the church of the same name and, Tarifi, a likely Arab settlement that marks the border with the town of Belmonte Calabro. The name "Longobardi" comes from the fact that it is the boundary between the Ducato of Benevento and the Byzantine lands in southern Calabria, and the village was allegedly founded by the Lombard King Liutprand.A little further from the village of Longobardi, along the sea, toward Belmonte, we find Tarifa. As the name suggests, perhaps there was a customs station located here. The village surpassed various changes during the reign of Naples, and became a commune of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861 and a part of the Republic in 1946. From an etymological study of words and other facts, we find that the “longobardesi” country was founded by refugees from Thourioi (threatened and destroyed by Hannibal) in 204 BC.Notable sites include the Church of San Francesco, the Collegiate, and some buildings in the central streets that stand out. Among these are the Pilgrim Palace with its magnificent staircase and painted coat of arms above the court and "Palazzo Preste" donated by the family to the city for civil use. The center is decorated with murals created by many different artists. Today, the city has almost 2,500 inhabitants to which we must add a small number of holiday tourists, considering the small existing urbanization, it makes for a very quiet and relaxing vacation. The sea is the commercial soul of Longobardi. The area is ideally suited for tourism and offers visitors a clear, blue, unspoiled sea. The local culinary specialties are handed down over time and their originality maintained. Their Calabrian festivals and celebrations are the norm and attract tourists from all over the coast of Calabria. Longobardi is strategically located between two major centers, Paola and Amantea, and is only 20 minutes drive from the international airport of Lamezia Terme.

The land, for the building project is in a rectangular shape, with cross-sectional growth toward the Tyrrhenian Sea. Land shares range from ml.7,00 to ml.9,00. The project is drawn up between the county road, which passes from the west side and hills to the east. The north side is defined as land to remain free from development. The south side belongs to another property under construction. The sector from the shoreline of the sea to about about 200 ml. outward tends to be flat and can be reached directly through the underpasses of SS 18 before and after the railway. This side of the course defines the Marina, which is a part of the local coastal settlement. The highway interchange is a little further south about 100 ml. “Villa Preste” is located in the extreme eastern portion of the land. The villa is an ancient aristocratic residence (from the early 800’s). It is characterized by simple and clean architectural lines, consistent with trends in the area. The building is under a restoration and widening aimed at creating a tourist hotel that will have a swimming pool and to enhance the areas viewing to the mountainsides. The building program in the area is also expected to continue to its west end, with development along the road above town. Plans include a building for commercial and residential, and behind these, two groups of terraced houses for residential use, all under construction and scheduled for completion. Conversely, in the upstream side of the Villa Preste, a residential project is planned, including 27 apartments each with a total area of 60 mq, each with terraces and ample gardens for those on the ground floor. The construction features of the buildings are without doubt the best in the area from the bathroom ceramics to the insulation for the apartment walls "to coat" which gives the properties a high degree of thermal resistance. All have excellent finishes with a porch made of water resistant wood, walls of brick and plaster mortar, and also excellent quality fixtures. All characteristics combine to make this a high quality/price complex. |
